ZERO INVESTMENT: REPRISE

GENERAL

-What is Zero Investment: Reprise?

Reprise is a new edition of Zero Investment. Based on the original mod, Reprise features a complete overhaul of gameplay systems, loads of new content, changes story beats and refreshed atmosphere and vibe.

-Why a new edition and not an update/sequel/DLC?

Reprise started as a DLC which was supposed to expand on gameplay systems and fill in some content gaps in the original release. As I worked on those systems, I realized they're simply getting too big for the original campaign, so I've decided to expand on it. Besides, right now I've got way more resources, people and experience than when I was developing the original mod. I'm being helped by a lot of different volunteers which is a big contrast to the original ZI which was developed mostly solo, and I would like to use this help to the fullest in Reprise. Finally, I'm not the same person who developed the original mod, and some things of the original story aren't as relatable anymore.

-When is Reprise going to be released?

As usual, when it's done. I would like to say "2027", but the project isn't at the stage where an exact date can be given. Regardless, the work goes smoothly, and I'm doing a monthly devblog to keep you updated.

GAMEPLAY

-How different is Reprise's gameplay from the original?

My main goal is to preserve the core gameplay of ZI, while making it deeper and more varied. Dynamic shootouts, lots of loot, varied character building - all the staples should remain. New mechanics like crafting and weapon customization should open up even more gameplay possibilities.

-How is combat changed?

Reprise's combat should become even less realistic and more arcadey. My goal here is to take you even further from your STALKER comfort zone. The player should have way more abilities and tools - but also be challenged by new enemies who shake up the combat rhythm. Reprise's combat will be more aggressive and varied.

-How much new gameplay content is there in Reprise?

Boatloads of new guns, outfits, artifacts and so much more. I'm planning to feature at least 2-3 times more stuff to loot, and a lot of old things are tweaked or overhauled.

STORY

-Will Reprise feature a new story?

50/50. The main theme and story arcs should remain the same, but those arcs will feature a lot of new events to see & locations to visit. All dialogue is rewritten to give you a better angle at the game world and its characters, and there are plenty of new faces to meet. So, even if you know the original ZI by heart, there will be a lot of new stuff to explore.

-How are sidequests changed in Reprise?

As with everything else, I'd like to expand on sidequests - both in quantity and quality. Like in the original release, some are simple fetch quests, but some are encompassing stories with plenty of choices. Since there will be much more sidequests this time, you won't experience them all during a single walkthrough - some stories will be hidden with karma, special conditions or secrets.

-What do you mean by "refreshed atmosphere and vibe"?

The original ZI feels rather unfocused to me. I'm glad people found it very special and enjoyable regardless. This time, I'd like to give more attention to the game's general atmosphere and contrast the batshit insane stuff with more serious topics. This should encompass the entire vibe of the mod, its visual presentation, dialogue and gameplay mechanics.

TECHNICALITIES

-Which engine does Reprise run on?

Reprise is constantly updated to the latest OGSR Engine thanks to the hard work of engine devs. Most of the engine's features are included in the mod.

-Which OGSR Engine features are used in Reprise?

A "softer" and more colorful look of modern renders give Reprise a distinct look of zany color pallettes. And although I have zero interest in technical details of graphics, I'm trying to use the possibilities opened up by modern visual features. My goal is to use the weird world of Parasha 2 to show you something that can't be seen in any other mod. Besides graphics, Reprise uses plenty of different things realized in OGSR and its forks. For example, OpenSpawn allows to easily add new locations to any mod - and so ZI: Reprise will feature plenty of levels from other mods and level packs. Of course, I'm not using features just for the sake of it. Every feature should serve a design idea. My goal is to make a mod that is fun to play, and not an engine benchmark.

-Will there be a Legacy version of Reprise?

No, it can't reasonably be supported anymore. Reprise is made with all the modern OGSR features in mind, porting which to an older branch would be unfeasible.

CHALLENGES

-What difficulties are there when developing Reprise?

The main difficulty is time. Big projects take a lot of it. I haven't run into any technical difficulties so far - the work goes very smoothly, but not as fast as it I would like it to. Unfortunately, some things like story and dialogue can't just be done in a pinch - good ideas always require some time to fully bloom.

-What if you don't release Reprise in time?

Well, thankfully there's no "in time". I'm eyeing Summer 2027 - but I really doubt it'll be ready by that time. Close to this time I'll think about what kind of release can be reasonably made (demo, beta build, etc.)

-Is there a risk of the project being canceled/frozen?

Life is unpredictable, but I would say the chance is really low, I've managed to develop a good work ethic over time. Besides, your support always warms me up to do more.

FINANCES

-How much does ZI make in donations?

Most of the donations came during November-December 2025, when the mod was being hyped up. At the moment, ZI bring me around $300 a month, mostly from paid subscriptions.

-How are you using the funds?

Mostly for my well-being - my job doesn't always allow me to pay the bills and keep my health in check. However, when extra money accumulates, I'm funding the mod by paying contributors and buying original content. The fruits of such funding will hopefully be noticeable in Reprise.

-How do the donations affect development?

They remind me that I have a material responsibility to keep working on ZI. Of course, nothing I'm doing is for donations' sake, so I'm trying my best not to let money affect my work ethic. Simply put, if I had stopped getting any donations, I wouldn't stop working on the mod.
